I don’t have a digital camera.
I never had one.
I always had an analogue with me. This is how it’s been for a long time.
And there came a time when everyone has a digital camera. In their smartphones. Even me. Even if I don’t want to. But still, I have one. But wait… I can promise myself not to use it anymore.
Yesterday I took my dog, Foma, for a little run. I picked one particular path, with a beautiful view of the river area. It was lovely. Beautiful weather, it is nearly spring here. The birds singing, flowers, smells. So amusing. I was coming back home on the nearest path to the river. I came close to the water for Foma, so she could drink water a little bit. I sat there, on rocks. It was beautiful. So quiet and noisy at the same time. Noisy from the waterfall. I put my hands into the water. So cold. I couldn’t leave them for five seconds. So deeply cold. The moment was perfect. And then I thought: I should take a picture.
But, why?
Why do I need to take pictures so much?
Will the experience be better? The water will be colder? Birds will sing more beautifully? Really?
Quite the opposite.
The water won’t be so cold anymore.
The river won’t be so blue.
Birds won’t be singing and the smell of spring will not be there anymore.
Finally, I decided to not pull out my phone.
And I am glad that I didn’t. I think I won’t pull my phone anymore. Not for taking photos.
So this is my pledge to analog photography. I do not have a digital camera anymore. I will not take digital photos.
I do only analogues.
Welcome to my analogue world.
