Ear training exercise with nature

I have been attending a German course for a couple of days. It is a very refreshing experience for me at this stage of my life. I last sat in a classroom full of students in 2018. Still, I have a lot of experience with learning. But I use to teach others. Now it is a nice change.

There are a lot of exercises and random talks in very limited German at this point. But my brain is like a sponge. He likes the feeling of learning. Getting to know a new language is a fantastic journey. It needs commitment. In Switzerland ability to speak three languages is basically normal. Four, or five languages are worth admiring.

Today we were doing some listening exercises and my experiences with resolving music tasks are very helpful now. I can finish every single exercise first. I can focus on that one particular thing that is needed at the moment. And time isn’t my enemy. That is my strength.

So for today, I have for you an ear training exercise. With nature. Something that is worth doing at every moment of your day. Just focus and pick a moment to listen to your surroundings. Listen to the birds singing, the wind blowing, the train passing. Try to recognise the pitches of bird song. Which do you like best? Can you point out the most common sound? Can you write down the rhythm of this sound? Could you match it to the time signature?

There are no wrong answers. There are just your answers. That’s all.
