Joanna Skowrońska

I am a Polish multidisciplinary artist based in Baden, Switzerland. My work moves between music, photography, and education, with a particular interest in the ways sound, image, creativity, and human connection can meet.

Music has been at the centre of my artistic life for more than twenty years. I work as a choral conductor, singer, and educator. I conduct the Spirit of Hope Choir in Nussbaumen, callia blu Vocal Ensemble in Brugg, and Kirchenchor Eschenbach, and serve as assistant conductor and soprano with Vocalino Wettingen. I have performed with choirs across Europe and the United States. I also teach singing, ear training, and creativity, developing approaches that encourage curiosity, listening, and an active relationship with music.

My background brings together formal musical training and a strong interest in visual arts. I hold an MA in Conducting Vocal and Vocal-Instrumental Ensembles from the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, Poland, and graduated with honours from the Bydgoszcz Academy of Photography Master, where I specialised in Creative Photography and nineteenth-century photographic techniques. I have also received scholarships from the Polish Minister of Science and Higher Education and the Mayor of Bydgoszcz.

Photography is now a more personal part of my practice, although it continues to be an important way for me to explore stillness, perception, and memory. My work has appeared in Artistic Hub Magazine, Lomography Magazine, Eye-Photo Magazine, and the Polish lo-fi photography album Five Minutes Away. I am currently working on two ongoing photographic series: the double-exposure series relations and the hand-embroidered series patterns in stillness. My photographs have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Poland and Switzerland.

Across all these areas, I am drawn to processes that leave room for intuition, experimentation, and genuine connection. Whether working with a choir, a student, or a photograph, I am interested in what happens when we listen closely and allow something unexpected to emerge.
