There is something indescribable about medium-format photography. I love it and hate it at the same time. It demands the best from me while keeping its own: not allowing me to sharpen the photo or frame it according to my vision.
And yet it has drawn me regularly for years. Every few weeks I dust Mamiya, check the shutter button and load the negative. Always the same Fomapan. I always enchant portraits thanks to it. I am not able to make such a portrait with a 35mm camera. And the black and white. It will stay in my medium format forever. Black and white is more forgiving, but also more bewitching.
I love Monika’s portraits from our last session. I managed to include not one double portrait, but several on one negative. Each slightly different, each beautiful. It is only when you focus on the details you can see how well the medium format copes with such photographs.
